Slow Cooker Sloppy Chicken Tacos

Ingredients

For the tacos:

  • 2 -3 lbs. boneless chicken tenders
  • 8 oz. can salsa verde
  • 2 Tbs. taco seasoning equivalent of 1 package*
  • 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 12-16 tortillas
  • 1 small head lettuce optional for serving
  • 2 tomatoes diced, optional for serving
  • 2 avocados diced, optional for serving
  • ½-1 cup cheese optional for serving
  • ½ cup sour cream optional for serving

For the homemade taco seasoning:

  • 3 Tbs. chili powder
  • tsp. garlic powder
  • ¾ tsp. onion powder
  • ¾ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  • ¾ tsp. dried oregano
  • tsp. paprika
  • Tbs. ground cumin
  • 1 Tbs. salt
  • tsp. black pepper

Instructions

  • Mix together thoroughly.
  • Divide into three baggies.
  • This makes the equivalent of 3 commercial sized packages.
  • Place chicken in the slow cooker.
  • Stir remaining ingredients, except tortillas and cheese, together and pour over chicken.
  • Cook on high for 5-6 hours or on low for 7-8 hours.
  • Shred the meat and serve in tortillas, topped with cheese.
