Slow Cooker Chicken Shawarma

Ingredients

For the shawarma:

  • 6 Tbs. lemon juice
  • 6 Tbs. olive oil
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. curry powder
  • 2 dashes cayenne pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic crushed
  • 3 lbs. chicken thighs boneless strips
  • 6-8 pita pockets
  • 1 head lettuce for serving, optional

For the cucumber sauce:

  • 8 oz. plain or Greek-style yogurt or sour cream
  • 1 small cucumber chopped

Instructions

For the cucumber sauce:

  • Stir together cucumber and yogurt.

For the shawarma:

  • In a small bowl, stir together lemon juice, olive oil, salt, curry, cayenne pepper and garlic.
  • Place chicken in the slow cooker and pour olive oil mixture over the top.
  • Stir to coat all chicken.
  • Cook on high for 5-6 hours or on low for 7-8 hours.
  • Serve chicken topped with cucumber sauce in pita bread rounds or wrapped in lettuce leaves.
