Stovetop Velma's Chili

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 small green pepper chopped
  • 1 stalk celery chopped
  • 2 15 oz. cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 15 oz. cans diced tomatoes
  • 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 Tbs. chili powder
  • 1 Tbs. sugar
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup red wine

Instructions

  • Brown the meat, onion, garlic, and celery together and cook till the meat is done. 
  • Drain the grease, rinse under hot water, and put it back in the pot.
  • Add remaining ingredients, except the wine. 
  • Taste for seasoning and adjust if necessary. 
  • Add the wine, bring to a simmer and cook for 1-2 hours.
